Free Cat & Kitten Adoptions in May!

As many of you know, we’re in the height of kitten season right now. That means the shelters are overflowing with cats and kittens who need homes. Orange County Animal Services is waiving all cat and kitten adoption fees (one per household) for the entire month of May! Each cat will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

We spent Mother’s Day taking photos of cats and kittens, and unfortunately we weren’t even able to photograph them all. Most of the little ones we photographed are about 1 month old and/or under 2 pounds, which means they’re too small to have spay/neuter surgery and must be fostered by an Orange County resident before they can be adopted.

If you’re interested in helping save lives, OCAS is holding its next foster parent orientation on May 22 (more info here).

Even though it’s kitten season, don’t forget about all of the wonderful adult cats who need homes, too. Now’s the perfect time to add a new member to the family!

Adoption Tails: Stitch | Lake Mary Dog Photography

Pugs by Thomas Pitera Photography Orlando Pet Photographer

This weekend, we got to hang out with Stitch and Cowboy and their people (Andrea, David and Violet) at Liberty Park in Lake Mary. Stitch is the newest addition to their family – he’s about 4 years old and his family rescued him from Orange County Animal Services just this March. He’s already great friends with Violet and Cowboy, the family’s 10-year-old fawn pug.

When they first brought Stitch home, he was underweight and had some eye problems; their vet thinks he might be partially blind in one eye, but that doesn’t bother him at all. Now, he’s filled out quite nicely and loves to fetch, chase his tail and watch TV.

Both boys are incredibly sweet and easy going. We particularly enjoyed their snorting and snuffling around in the woods!

Stitch especially loves belly rubs and running around with Violet. I think it’s safe to say he’s definitely found his happy ending with his buddy Cowboy and his people!

My sister Kristen and her fiancé Jay got engaged this past December. Jay surprised her with a weekend getaway to New York City, where he proposed at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. They’ve been planning for a December wedding in Key West, FL. Recently Kristen asked me if I would take a few nice photos of her and Jay for their wedding website, announcements, and save the date cards. I did what any big brother photographer would do – I asked “Would it be OK if I took the photos with my iPhone?”

Naturally, she wasn’t nearly as amused as I was. Obviously I was just teasing her and told her I would absolutely love to! I did have one condition: they had to include their Shiba Inu Toby, who makes a cameo in a few shots.

In typical Florida fashion, the weather never seemed to cooperate when our schedules coordinated. The weather was very overcast this weekend, but we pushed ahead anyways. We got some great shots and had a great time. I’m looking forward to their wedding this winter where I will (thankfully) be attending as a guest and not a photographer.
